Mepps or rapala? Bass attractant?

Which is better mepps or rapala luers? Cuz wouldnt a fish rather bite something that looks like a fish than something ” shiny”? And does berkley( or any other kind of) bass attractant work? Cuz I’v never had luck with attractant.

Both of those types lures will work in different situations. Bass are quite picky and they will bite on one thing one day, and something completely different the next. Rapala’s may look more like fish, but they are also stick baits, so they don’t have as much movement or flash as the mepps, but both work really well. It just all depends on what those fish are eating that day.

And yes, attractants DO work. I haven’t tried Berkley, but I have had luck with YUM and Kick n’ Bass and Spike-It. It has increased my catch ratio compared to when I am not using it. I’ve used a lure without it, nothing. Then sprayed it on and tossed the same lure in the same spot and caught Bass. So YES, it does work, you just have to find the one they like.

Lures are usually designed for a specific species of fish. Mepps are more of a running water type lure whereas Rapala is more of a lake type lure so depending on the water you’re fishing would mandate the lure.

Bass and similar type fish like to attack things that are wounded or replicate a local food source. This is why Mepps spinners can be used, they offer vibration and flash.

As far as scents, that’d be my last resort on a bad day of fishing in hopes everything else has failed and possibly something might be attracted and accidentally run into my lure.

DIY Fishing Lures

Hi, These are fishing lures that I made out of wood and metal. I have used the strong inner of Cable TV wire for the spinner shaft. The wood ones are painted with water color. I coated ‘em in a basic lacquer. I found the spinner beads at the thrift store in necklace form. :OP The metal is copper that I pounded and then cut with tin snips.

Im entering a fishing tournament for small mouth bass, any good tips?

Im entering a local fishing tournament soon, for Small mouths, muskie, and walleye. For the tournament im going to target the small mouths, I dont fish for river small mouth bass, I generally fish the local lake for Large mouth, and fair pretty well. Ive tried useing some of my large mouth tactics for smallmouths with out much success. I fished one spot on the river the other day with a friend, we had no luck all day, until the evening came and the small mouths started smashing topwater lures then they just turned off again. The ones we did catch on top water luers were small but we did catch a few 2 to 3 pounders. Does any one have any tips or tactics on how to locate and catch these small mouths during mid day or any other time? Which lures you think work best and how to use them? How to catch even bigger smallmouths? The river we will fish for the tournament is very shallow, most of the river i see is only 3 to 5 ft deep and shallower. There are some pockets of 5 to 7 ft. But i dont think it gets any deeper then that. Any advice, tips, and tactics will be appreciated, thanks!!

I have had great luck fishing in similar conditions when i take it back to the basics. Fish a bober with a small minnow or a worm at one to two feet with a few small split shot. Cast a small spinner with another pole while you have your float rig out. I would tip it with a piece of worm for added scent.

Where are the hotspots in the bay area to catch black bass, catfish, and stripped bass? what time of the year are they most abundant? what are the best luers to catch black bass?

Striped bass, right now. Black bass, I have never had much luck with in the bay, but I do have a lot of luck with them anywhere from Antioch to Isleton, same with cats, never got one in the ocean..

Anyway, I frequent the Berkley Pier and I like it alot.
