How many lures do YOU need to fish?
Question by Ole Fisherman: How many lures do YOU need to fish?
When I was a young whipper-snapper I needed 15 lb’s of tackle to go catch a bunch of 2-5LB Bass. Since recently purchasing a new Kayak, I’ve “down-sized” to 2 small plano “insert” boxes & 1 “over-stuffed” worm bag.
Let’s play “Name that Tune” I mean ,”Name that Lure”!
” I can win that tourney with one bag of worms & a 1/4 OZ spinner-bait”…..(LOL)
(er….the younger folk won’t get my “Name that Tune” reference. So, “younger folk” just lol anyway!)

A Fishing Rod is not as Simple as Many Believe
A fishing pole is a simple pole made out of carbon fibre, graphite, or fiberglass. These poles have a fishing line attached to the tip of the pole and a hook is attached to the fishing line. The hook can use either a lure or bait to catch fish. A fishing rod contains a casting reel and fishing guides on the rod to thread the fishing line and guide it during the casting and reeling in of fish. Therefore, a fishing rod is much more sophisticated than a fishing pole.
Many different types of fishing rods exist and each should be evaluated before one is selected. A fishing rod is designed based on the type of fishing. For example, some people fish just for a hobby in a local pond, others try to catch freshwater fish, and still others seek large fish in deep sea waters. Each of these types of fishing requires a particular design style of rod and is not interchangeable.
A fly fishing rod is a popular rod choice and is used in fly fishing. This rod is thin and very flexible and designed to cast an artificial fly which is usually very lightweight. Each fly rod is further designed based on the type of fish one desires to catch as well as the type of water one will fish in.
Another popular type of fishing rod is the sea rod. This rod is very thick and sturdy because it is designed to catch very large species of fish. Sea rods are very long and again designed for particular types of fish which include marlin and shark. These fishing rods are primarily used in deep sea fishing.
A surf fishing rod is another type of rod used in the sea or ocean. This rod is used while standing along the beach. Since the fisherman must cast past the breaking water, this fishing rod is quite long and is designed to cast using two hands.
A fishing rod is a necessary tool of fishing and should be selected based on the type of fishing one will be participating in as well as the type of fish. Each rod is very specialized and not as simple as once believed.

I would love to be in a tournament. I love BASS fishing. I am going to DICK’s in an hour to get some lures to go fishing with tommarrow. I can never find any info about any tournaments in my area, southwest PA. If I had the money or could get sponsered I could travel farther.
As far as your question. When I start fishing I always start top-water. I’ll use Flukes, they swim like hurt minnows. Or I’ll try frogs. I have different colors of each. Then if they don’t work, I’ll go to my 1- crankbaits. This time of year, Spring/April 21, I use natural looking lures. Another words silvers and greys, anything that I think could resemble the true image of a fleeing fish. When I reel in the crankbaits, I will start with a fast retrieve, then a slow, then start and stop till I get a fish then repeat. The best seems to be a steady retrieve while you jerk the bait throught the water. Give it a jerk then reel reel reel jerk reel reel reel jerk. If that don’t work, I’ll go deeper and deeper till I get results. If all that doesn’t work, I’ll switch to rubber worms, on a Texas rig on a 5/0 hook sometimes I’ll use 4/0. I will also try differnt color worms. Then if I still aint getting anything, I’ll goto Gitzit tubs. I’ll try all the colors of those I have and hope they work. It really depends on alot of things though. Weather, water temp, do they have good cover, your line strength, how you fish your bait, the color of the bait, if the bait is flavor injected or has salt or other tastes, the barometer plays a role in how the fish feed too. I learned all I know from a true BASS fisherman. He has fished in tournaments all of his life. He was in with 300-400 other boats. The closest he ever got was 15th place. Also before a tournament, find out where it will be, what lake, and fish it as much as you can. Find where the cover is, where the deep spots are. What colors the fish seem to bite on the most, etc… I hope this helped, If you ever need someone to fish with and your around Pittsburgh PA let me know. Of course you should e-mail me know so we can set something up. Good luck if you fish in an upcoming tournament. Hey, I just got back from a cold wet day of fishing and I got a few BASS, but nothing over 2 lbs. I found acouple sites where you can but books to help you figure out what lures to use, and how to use them. They both have gaurantees too.

So Many Reasons to Own Tropical Fish!
Are you thinking about owning tropical fish? Then you’re in for a treat – there are many reasons why these little beauties make great pets, and some of those reasons may actually surprise you! So if you’re still on the fence about whether or not you want to spend your money at the fish store, let’s take a closer look at some reasons and benefits – that’s right, we said benefits – that you may want to consider when it comes to choosing tropical fish as your new pets.
For one thing, there are many apartment dwellers today or those who live in limited space. Even the smallest cat may take up some room because of his or her litter box and may not even be allowed in an apartment because of potential damage. But most apartment managers allow tropical fish because they don’t scratch the carpet, make messes on anything, or disturb the neighbors. And for those who aren’t even limited by an apartment’s rules, consider that tropical fish don’t need to be walked, groomed, scooped up after, and won’t tear up the rosebushes or leave you a dead mouse as a gift. They don’t get fleas and won’t get into fights with other neighborhood fish and won’t give you a litter of six or seven babies that you somehow need to give away.
While there is still some work involved in keeping tropical fish, they are usually some of the lowest maintenance pets you can own which is good for anyone that doesn’t want to put a lot of work into keeping a pet, someone that travels often and will need someone else to care for their pet, or someone that doesn’t have all the time in the world to devote to an animal. They can also be great pets for families with young children as dogs and cats sometimes don’t interact well with children while tropical fish usually get along with everyone.
It’s believed by some that keeping tropical fish can actually be very relaxing. Some doctors believe that looking at fish has a calming effect on anyone, as being over-stimulated by television shows and even the news can be agitating to a person even if they don’t realize it. But just sitting quietly and watching tropical fish can be very calming and soothing.
They also make for great educational pets as well. If you introduce your children to the world of tropical fish they can get a firsthand feel for how the oceans and lakes really work and what it looks like underwater. They can also better understand how pollution really affects the environment as they see the water get dirty or cloudy when it needs to be cleaned. By having them feed the fish and help as much as they can with cleaning the tank, young children too are taught responsibility and can really enjoy having tropical fish as they bond with each one and see how they interact together.
